top off water????

what does this consist of? Is this just water since only water evaporates, or is it mixed saltwater? Have had and read conflicting stories, help

Just water not salt. You are correct only the water evaporates. Just watch for salt creep which can lower your salinity over time and in that case you would need to add a little bit of salt to your top off water.

DON'T add SW for your topoff, only H2O evaporates, and thus by adding SW you raise the Salinty, and QUICKLY!!! This will kill all of your fishies, and nobody wants that to happen. RO/DI water is the best for topoff, but I currently am still using aquasafe treated tapwater until I can afford the RO/DI unit that I "want", haha. Good luck...
