It would probably decompose because it hasn't gone through a curing process like driftwood. You don't want rotting stuff in your tank. I may be wrong though.

First thing anyone does before putting driftwood in their tanks is to be sure that all the bark has been removed. It will just start to rot & cloud your water.
 
also if you are looking for your own time of driftwood you need to make sure its a hard wood.
