val question

Hey all, i bought some val about 3 weeks ago, and planted it my 33 gal tank. It was a rather mature plant, and i noticed that a large about of pieces of (4-5 inches) the plant were stuck to the filter. The plants themselves are over a foot long, and there are parts that look green and healthy, but what could have caused this initial loss of pieces of plant? could it be just the initial stress causing them to fall off. Or is this my fish at work? thanks

When I first introduced vals into my tank some of the mature leaves "melted" off but within a few days the started to send out runners and spruce up!..I would say it's normal activity IMO
