Water conditions for a spotted clown knife

I was wondering what my water conditions should be for a clown knife.

Currently its:
PH 7.6
Hardness 150ppm
Alkalinity 120ppm
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 20ppm

I've heard that the PH and Hardness should be alot lower than this. Is this really important for the health of this fish and if not, would he show any signs of disease or distress with the above parameters. If i need to lower this down, what is the cheapest and easiest way to do this.....

Hope you have a big tank. These guys can grow to four feet I believe.
