I have a whole house water filtration system. Do I still need to use Prime?

Plus doesn't prime help with the slim coat?

Hello nic...

If the filtration system is guaranteed to treat the tap water the same as Prime, then there's no reason to use it.

It really depends how effective your filtration system is and what the water is treated with.

I would test the tap water for chlorine and ammonia before discontinuing prime use.

This is one of those things I have never really understood. I know all the products promote this, but do fish really need assistance with their slime coat? I mean, when was the last time somebodies fish had a major slime coat issue?

I use distilled water from my home RO system in my tank, and don't treat with Prime or anything else. I do let the buckets set overnight before changes.

I have a very low tech planted tank with no water treatment chemicals, fertilizers, or CO2, and love it. Chrystal clear water, bright, healthy fish, and less money spent on the hobby.
