One of my heavily planted 32g FW (with C02) is install with 2x20 Watt (10 000K each) which give me 1.25 Watt/g ratio.

I know the optimum would be 2 Watt/g but my lfs advise me that my current setup have enuf light for my tank.

Before i go n buy another 20Watt for that tank, may i know what your tank's Watt/g ratio?

thanks.

I actually run Cf lighting on all my tanks. The lowest wpg I have is on a 20 gal with 72 watts which is like 3.6 wpg on it. At 1.25 wpg you can have low light plants, but I wouldnt advise trying to grow any high light plants in that tank, might not even go for any of the medium light plants. Personally I would advise you to read Rex's faq on his page which is http://www.rexgrigg.com/aa.htm Planted Aquarium Help page, and if you are insterested in upgrading your lighting you can go to a few sites such as http://www.hellolights.com/ http://www.ahsupply.com/ both sites are very good. If you dont want to upgrade your existing light hood, but just want the cf light fixture check those sites also. But I really recommend reading Rex's faq to find out about all the lighting and such.

All of my planted tanks have at least 2.75 watt per gallon on them. And the 2.75 wpg tank is a 20 gallon with a 55 watt CF light on it. The rest of my tanks all run in the 3.5+ watts per gallon range.

No matter what your LFS says I think you need more light unless you want to stick with very low light plants.

2.93 watts per gallon over 75 gallon tank
3.25 watts over a 20 gallon

As Rex points out...1.25 wpg can grow plants...but only a select few. your LFS advises against it because, like most LFS's, they sell fish....not plants...and therefore don't know a whole lot about high tech/high light planted tanks.

Here's how my plants grow: http://home.neb.rr.com/malkore/

My 10 gal has two 25 watt bulbs (not flourescent) and my 5 gal has one 25 watt bulb (again not flourescent). My 3 gal has a flourescent bulb, but it does not have any wattage written on it (it came with it - Eclipse system). I am guessing the 3 gal tank is ok, because my chain sword, narrow leaf is mulitiplying like rabbits in there.

75 gal has the crummy flourescent bulbs that came with it that probably don't even equal 1 watt per gallon, but I will replace that before I put live plants in the tank. One thing at a time, please! :p
