What algae is this??!!

Ok, so I got this piece of DW from Lake Erie washed up on the beach. I've had it in a tank by itself for about a month to so soak the tannins out and all the sudden this white algae plant thing started growing and grew like crazy after a week. Can anyone explain what this might be?

It's in a 10 gal just to soak. Nothing else with it. Thank you

Fungus. Quite common in driftwood, especially newer driftwood. Usually goes away, you can remove it. Did you sterilize the driftwood you got out of he lake?

I wanted to let it soak first to see what it would do but I scraped it all off and baked in the oven now it's soaking again and haven't seen any grow back yet. It didn't even leak any tannins the water was still clear after a few weeks I thought that was weird. Thanks for replying!
