I rescued this little guy from a powerhead and just wated to know if I could release him...

It's a pistol shrimp. I'd release him. And, depending on your tank, perhaps get him a shrimp goby buddy to pal around with.

If I release him I dont think he'll survive very because of the larger more menaceing looking looking critter I saw the other night. I have traps set...

Well, perhaps keep him in a specimen box or a breeder net or something in the tank til you can catch, I assume you are talking about, a mantis?

yep you guessed it... A dark red one...
