I have never had a hood on my fishtanks, just a top. Recently I set up my 30gal in my bedroom by the window (which doesn't give much light since I live in a basement) and in order to get a good view of my fishies at night, I have to turn on 3 60watt incandescent light bulbs and point it straight at my tank. In addition, I have a fluroescent light that is behind my tank and I leave that on all day. My bf offered to build me a hood for my tank to go with my stand. I think it would definitely be worthwhile to get some sort of lighting to go with it. I have no idea where to look for lighting though, should I go to HD or the LFS? Will a normal flourescent light bulb work? I want something that doesn't use a lot of energy but will still provide lots of light. I don't have any live plants (except for philodendrons in the back) but I might want to get some in the future. What do you guys use/recommend??
