What to feed snails

I have 4 snails in my tank and I have no idea what to feed them. I think the idea is that they would eat algae off the side of the tank? Not sure. The shop owner just gave them to me. I have no plants in my tank. I was thinking of feeding them lettuce or carrots. Please let me know what I should do!

I keep mystery, rabbit, nerite and giant Colombian and I feed them blanched courgette, spinach, kale ,algae wafers and hikari crab cuisine, you want to feed them food rich with calcium to help good shell growth.
