That one isn't actually a tetra. I have a school of them, and although I really like them, mine won't eat flakes or pellets, which is a real minus IMO.
I like both rummynose tetras and cardinal tetras, as they look very impressive in large schools. Diamond tetras and gold tetras are very shiny and beautiful as well, however diamonds tend to be nippy.
This bulletproof, tough, colorful & showy fish have been around forever. Always out and showing off to each other and their owner. Can take water conditions that fold all the others. Little fish-Big attitude. Love them!
We own neon tetras, so our experience is limited, but these fish have interesting personalities... we only have 3 for now and can still tell them apart by both action and appearance; personality is the right word.
I also like Amandae or Ember Tetras (Hyphessobrycon amandae) and plan to get a few since they don't get much larger than 3/4" to 1" and should interact with our neons well (I hope)
Just got 3 red minor Serpae tetras the other day, definitely plan on getting more though! They're bright, pretty, like showing off.... I got them bc they were a buck a piece but I really really like them so far!
~and they don't spaz out so fast u don't need a **** dSLR to snap a pic of em!~
