When should I do water changes and how much should I change?

I am a new fish keeper with a new 10 gallon fish tank for a month now with 2 platys and 2 zebra danios and I was thinking of doing 30-40% every month but is that okay?

The amount is fine. Just do it once a week, not once a month.

I would also like to point out Zebra Danios are schooling. I agree that amount once a week will work.

Okay thank you, I will start to do once a week now. And when I got my danios, the pet store misinformed me (which I have learn that they misinform with many things) about danios but I do plan on getting 3 more.

Hello dai...

The more water you change and the more often you change it, the healthier the tank. If the tank was mine, I'd remove and replace half the water every four or five days.
