I'm going through the loads of stuff that came with my used tank. In it is a whisper diatomagic filter. What the heck is this thing? Would it help settle things down from the move? My tank is pretty cloudy but it's only been 12 hours.

Thanks!

A diatom filter is a very small micron filter that can literally strip a tank of nutrient and free floating organisms. Not something I would suggest using for a SW tank. It may come in handy to run as a once monthly "polishing" filter but not something to use frequently.

As far as the tank being cloudy, don't sweat it. The particles will soon settle once they become weighted down from bacteria and waste. They are actually a good addition overall and I wouldn't suggest filtering them out.

Cheers
Steve
