Hello everyone

my rainbow shark has developed within a couple of days white things across its body looking like white scales and the fins are resembling fin rot.

I cannot find anything for how to treat. Does anyone recognize this?

It lives in a 20 gallon tank with three dwarf rainbow fish. The dwarf rainbow fish seem to be in good shape for now.

Photo attached.

I started a salt treatment in the tank today. Hoping it survives for someone’s help.

What are the ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate readings in the aquarium? Fin rot usually starts with poor water quality so may want to address that too. In terms of treatment your best bet would be a qt tank for the shark and use one of the bacterial cures in the market, one with erythromycin I believe it is

Is a 1 gallon tank good for qt?

The shark is 3inches long.

Th ammonia is high, I’ve been using ammo lock to keep it from being toxic. Nitrite and nitrate are zero.

Hello all,

I am doing a melafix and Pimafix treatment right now which was going for four days now. erythromycin Is banned in Canada.

the good news is that my rainbow shark looks better.

Bad news, it still has a skin condition. A red rash. Anyone can help identify what it is?

I have new photos posted below.

I personally have never had ANY luck with Melafix or Pimafix...
I had a fungal infection in one of my tanks awhile back and the LFS recommended 'kordon rid ich plus'
IT IS NOT INVERT SAFE though!! So be careful no snails or shrimp are in tank. It is however safe for scaleless fish. But it worked wonderfully for me..
Although I am not positive your issue is fungal, however the treatment works for many issues..
Might be something to keep in mind if you have any more problems in the future..
Best of luck!!

Thanks.

It seems like the fish is getting out of it.

I still have this odd ammonia spike. But trying to manage it with reduced feeding, ammolock and reseeding. I hope that helps, but if anyone has advise on that, I welcome it.
