One of the reasons they are more rare or unique is because they are harder to care for... higher mortality rates before they get to the store, higher mortality rates at the store, higher mortality rates at home.. all making them less popular with the general hobbyist (and therefore the average LFS)... so they carry less of them (or none at all)...

Sorry for your loss. Just wanted to add that Puffers can be bullies at times...I wouldn't rule that out either.
