Why we need to replace the light bulb

I am a newbie, so I dont understand we why need to replace the light bulb every 6 months? even the bulb is still working? thanks

You only need to change the bulb if you have something that needs a certain spectrum. If you only have fish, you only need to change the bulb when it goes out or when the color shifts too much.
