I boiled it multiple times no luck

It can take YEARS to sink!!!. You could screw a ceramic plate to the bottom of it. Make sure to use a stainless steel screw....

Some driftwood never sinks. ....

You can silicone it to a rock.

You could use a sheet acrylic instead of a piece of slate. The weight of the gravel will hold it down. Also, be sure to use stainless steel screws.

Sometimes it take a while for wood to sink....
