Why wont my driftwood sink? I kept it in the water for a whole?

Why wont my driftwood sink? I kept it under water for a couple months?

It can take YEARS to sink!!!. You could screw a ceramic plate to the bottom of it. Make sure to use a stainless steel screw....
 
You could use a sheet acrylic instead of a piece of slate. The weight of the gravel will hold it down. Also, be sure to use stainless steel screws.
