I have a 75 gal with a pair of breeding convicts, they've just spawned and the mother is in her coffee mug guarding around 200 little eggs...

My question is.... I have 6 dennison barbs in the same tank, they're too fast for the convicts, so they're left alone unless they venture down towards the convicts territory..

I'm wondering since they're so quick and "untouchable" in this tank... Will they work up the courage to start eating convict fry? Will the babies be safe and protected?

Will my convicts become insanely protective once the fry hatch?

No the Puntius denisonii will predate on the fry, they are simply to quick for the Amatitlania nigrofasciata to stop them. They will hold their spawn close to the original spawn site but as they start walking the fry the barbs will quickly dispatch them. But don't worry much because 24 seconds after that spawn ends they'll be working on another.
