I recently bought some play sand from the home depot. It does not anywhere on the bag say it is silocate sand. But it doesn't say it is aragonite based either. It is the quikrete brand. Please respond as I do not want to kill my fish. I thought that silocate was poisonous and it would have to be marked on the bag as to sell. is this true or false? Thanks again

Silicates cause algae (diatoms), silica (sand) does nothing, it is not really soluable in a marine tank to any damaging degree. Aragonite sand can be tested with vinegar. Put a small amount of the sand in a glass bowl and a teaspoon or so of vinegar. If it fizz's you have aragonite, if it does nothing you have silica.

AFAIK though, Quikrete playsand is silica.

Cheers
Steve
