I'm thinking of changing what covers the opening to my tank to plexiglass. My current thing came with the tank and its not very clear, kinda hard to describe but its textured. So I'm thinking something more smooth will let more light through. Any other suggestions are welcome. Thanks in advance.

The plastics do not work well for a cover. Even the thick stuff will sag plus it is harder to clean off calcium without damage. Get a glass top, you will be happier in the long run. :D

agreed. plexiglass will begin to sag the instant you put it over the tank.
the only thing besides glass that's clear and would work is lucite, and you're talking about $50 for a smallish piece.
go with the glass top...probably $15 tops.

I know some people who have used lexan polycarbonate and had goood success, although it has a somewhat lower light transmission index than glass, so in the end, glass (or nothing at all) is your best bet.
