Recently the color change of my two yellow labs has had me concern in that they are getting black lines. When I first got them which was May of this year they were a little over an inch and were pure yellow but over the last few weeks they've been getting black lines (One has a little black on the upper lip). I looked up on this and read that if they are very young (Such as mine), then it could be bad genes that isn't making them pure yellow but I'm not accepting that answer yet.
My parameters in the tank are perfect, I clean the tank once a week and I stacked my slates in a way that they are many caves and many ways to enter and exit the caves. Can someone help me figure out what this issue is. Thank you.

I wish I could but my cam is on the fritz, I'll try and see if I can take a pic of them tomorrow with my brother's iphone.

Are they getting vertical black bars on their bodies. I've seen a lot of young saulosi mislabeled as labs because they can look alike during the juvenile stage.

I am certain that they are yellow labs since I got it from a breeder in his apartment and not a petstore.

My female has very faint black lines and my male is bright yeller. Lol yellow

So you are saying that this is normal?

Oh yeah mine has those black lines like any other normal lab but it's these other lines that are concerning me.

My female has vertical lines that come and go mostly they come when breeding.

These are the pics of them, you can see the side of them that they have black lines, it's kind of hard to see but you can see it.

If you look at the second pic you can see a little black on the labs upper lip.

On a side note it was such a pain just to take these two pics, it's as if they are camera shy.

That's what my female has. From what I've read they do that if its interested in another.

Well they have been going in circles recently but my Afra is a blocker, where he gets in between them. So do you think that could be it?
