just starting a 55gal new tanganyika cichlid tank. I m looking for some advice on the apperance.
my set up so far
sand substrait, puka shells for ph buffer 8.0 now, rock piles drift wood,
one plant... more to come ( glueing rocks together for planters on stacks,
filter casscade 1000, air bubber, 2 heaters.

Wood can counter the buffering effect. Tannins can leach out of the wood, this will act as an acid, and while your water is buffered and you don't notice the pH drop it can eat away at your shells. Stick with rock if you can.
