the research im doing says 1-3 watts per gallon. Since your not trying to grow all different kinds of plants, you can go with around 150 watts im thinking. You really should post the types of plants and your aquarium size on the planted section. There are many light gurus that no way more than I do about this. Thats what I did when I started my 36 gallon planted tank
