hi all iv got my tank up and running now.. got a few inhabitants few crabs a sand star a damsel some cauliflour coral and some nems that just appeared.. but recently the tank is getting loads of horrible algea grownin on the rock and glass its green and browny in colour and ideas on how to get rid as its horrible.. also on the glass and back of the tank thee is a purple red stuff growing any idea what this is

it might be a diatom bloom, and the red string stuff sounds like cynobacteria. They're usually just part of the process, but you should probably test your water, and post the results. And what kind of flow do you have in the tank? do you know, in gph? and what size tank, that kind of thing

also do you use tap water or ro water? if your tap water you could be introducing phosphate into your aquarium that could be a factor as well
