info on diatom algae

i have a 90g been up for almost a year and i replaced the lights last week but i still have a big problem with diatom algae...i have over 100 snails and 8 scalet crabs but i have to clean the tank twice a week...to keep it off the glass

i have a diatom filter running now to help keep it clean and the filter turns brown after 2 day

any ideas.?

Diatoms are caused by silicates. What type of water are you using? You may want to test the source water and see if that is the source.
