are retrofit kits soely used for tanks that have a wooden canopy? I was looking into getting two SunPaq retrofit kits that are 24" with two 65w bulbs (1 dual daylight, 1 dual actinic) - so two sets would be great for a 50 galon tank. What else would i need besides canopy? Cooling Fans?

That would give you a little over 4 watts per gallon. It really all depends on what you want to keep as far as coral goes. You could keep just about all soft corals, zoos, shrooms, ect...

You will need a canopy and probably a cooling fan.

Is your tank just 24" long?? Got to figure that in. Also with just one of those set ups you'll be lucky to just keep shrooms.

my tank is 50 gallons, 30 inches long. That is why i was gonna go with the 24 inch because i cant seem to find a compact flourecent hood that puts out enough light, and i dont want to do metal halide. So i figured i would build a canopy with 2 retrofit kits.
