Has anyone ever left a small amount of rock over the waterline at the top of the tank. Does it matter? Can you leave the rock over water line? I just redid my rock work and once I was all done I noticed the rock is not completely covered by water.

Shouldn't matter at all. Just know that more of that rock will be exposed for a short time when you take the water out for water changes.

If possible I would keep it under the water. it will build up salt deposits and if a chunk of salt falls in the water it could burn a fish or invert. They cannot handle pure salt, that why we premix our water..... So we know it is completely dissolved.
I know it's a pain to rework rock but if it saves hurting a fish is it not worth it?
