hi,

my diy co2 was pretty much off for a couple of days, and a thick hair like algae started to smother the hair grass in my tank. Even the saimese algae eaters couldn't get rid of it. I used my fingers to pull it off, and out of the tank it looks like a very strong, darkish green type of algae.

Is there any solution other than just removing it as it appears?

You can try to spot treat the algae with flourish excel/glutaraldehyde or 3% hydrogen peroxide. Squirt the areas full of algae and leave the filters off for 20 minutes.
