Almonds?

Yesterday I was thinking: If people put almond leaves in their tank to lower PH and get blackwater, why can't they put almonds?

So I got a cup of water, put 10-20 almonds in it and left it overnight. Today, the water is completely tanned with a PH of 6.2 (was 7.5 yesterday).

So I guess my question is, can I put like 30 inside my 55 gallon tank's filter? I am trying to breed Harlequin Rasboras.

EDIT: Also breeding Harlequins is NOT the main reason I'm doing this. I also prefer the blackwater look. So would this be safe for fish?

I don't see why not. They do prefer an acidic water, so long as the ph doesn't drop too low. In plakat bettas they use almond leaves to strengthen and condition before fights. I'd think it would be the same with rasboras that the almond would help them heal better and stay healthier.
