I know the 3 minute rule and follow it. I also only feed every other day, but i still see a few (3 to 5) of those white cottony slimy things floating around my tank or hanging off of decorations. People say I am overfeeding when those things happen but I am fairly sure I am not. Also I have a hard time from getting the food sucked into the filter, how much is too much?

Generally speaking...some food going into your filter isn't too much of a problem. If you have food that is floating on top of your tank however, it means you are overfeeding to some extent. If you were not, the food wouldn't still be there.

I would feed in small intervals, gradually adding food until the fish stop eating it. Decaying food can also increase ammonia levels, so it's best to keep it out if possible. Hope this helps some.
