how long to wait on pH test?

I bought some (25 lbs.) black gravel today (not the shiny, coated kind) and it said on the bag that it could alter the pH. I rinsed it really well and now it's soaking in a 5 gallon bucket. My question is, how long after soaking should I test the pH to see if there's going to be a change?

So far, after 4 hours, the pH of the water is still 7.2, same as my straight tap. Should I check again in 24 hours or would it have already hiked it up by now. Just wondering.

Pour some vinegar on the sand and see if it bubbles. If it does, don't use it.

I like the 24 hour wait too...along with FF's recommendation for the vinegar test.

Great ideas....gee, why didn't I think of the vinegar test???? LOL All that college chemistry wasted. hehehe
