This is what my intake tube looks like on my AquaClear 50. Is it going to be appropriate for dwarf puffers or should I get a sponge to cover it? If so, where can those be bought that are small enough to fit the tube?

I love to put sponge on all intakes. It allows you to prefilter large debris and keep it out of your filter.

I rinse it in old tank water when doing my PWC.

Sponges are a pain, you have to clean them all the time, that will.be fine assuming the peas are not juvies.

I got the feeling from the lfs that I am ordering them from that they are very young and small. I went ahead and took out a small piece of my filter sponge and fit it over the opening. I think it will work fine. :)

Better safe than sorry. Once you are certain that they are not drawn to the intake and stick it is easy to remove.
