Keeping your balls clean

I took my intake strainer off to put a piece of pantyhose over it to protect my ADF's. Wow, was I surprised to find how much debris, grass, etc that had gotten lodged around my ball in the strainer !

I hadn't thought of checking this while cleaning the filter, but I will in the future

What filter do you have?.. I might be able to find a link for optimizing it..

I use a HOT and Fluval 304.
What do you mean by optimizing it.. it's working fine

Of course they work fine.. they are both canisters I assumed you might have a Power Filter, more optimizing.. You could get a sponge prefilter for your HOT and 304.. that would help.. If I had both on my tank I would fill my 304 with bio-media and get a sponge prefilter, you would rarely if ever need to crack it open then!!!

I run sponge in my HOT along with the bio filter.
In my 304 in run sponge in the 2 bottom baskets, floss X 2 in the 2nd basket along with bio rings. I run bio rings in both the top baskets.

The prefilter for the Mag-Drive submersible pumps models 2-5 will most likely fit the intake to your filters as well..
