I have a 55g and a 29g and when I turn on the lights in the morning it seems to me it scares the fish. The lights are just the standard flourescent ones that came with the tanks. Any suggestions or thoughts?

You could get a timer from the big box hardware store, that way the lights go on and off automatically at the same time every day, the fish seem to get used to the routine and don't startle as easily.

Any way of adding a dimmer to the wire? So you could slowly raise it instead of shock them? Ive seen products that slowly raise the lighting to simulate sunrise/sunset. On the diy section of this forum I'm sure I read a thread about a diy unit that does that plus combines the moonlighting to give a natural cycle.
