So I started this project that I thought was pretty neat. I just started it with my 2.5g. What I did was add some dead leaves and some water/dirt from the pond in my yard, which is apparently full of micro-life. Then I added some plants as to use some of the nitrate and made a semi-diy 20w lighting fixture hahaha. Anyway here are some pics of what I have so far:

And hopefully, I plan to move this project up to my 10g tank. I also hope to add a few more creatures such as some isopods, amphipods, and possibly a crawdad, although I'm not so sure since I hear they need highly oxygenated water. anyway, we'll see how it goes.

Some of my friends in bio 102 made these in class. Everyone had to get their stuff from a different water source and compare what grew in their tank. You just need a microscope to view the inhabitants LOL

I tried keeping salmon fry in a tank once. But of course I didn't know anything back then so they died.

Just a small update. Plants have grown quite a bit. I can definately tell a difference from when I leave for school to when I get back home, and that's only with the window open, no artificial lighting. I added a few more plants and some pond water which had a lot of micro-life lol. Everywhere I look, daphnia or copepods or micro worms. and a lot of the copepods have eggs :D

lol, once i get mine up and running i will be happy. But i will watch yours grow first. lol.

Well last night I acheived what I like to call megapearling lol. There was a lot of bubbles on the plants and some on the filter and a some foam at the top. I'll have to try to add the pics I got later if they're any good or get some more tonight.

Its been growing everyday. However I'm having doubts that I should move this up to a 10g because that'd be going from 8wpg to 2wpg which is a huge difference in ligthing, if you think about it. So now I'm thinking about turning the 10g to a planted shrimp tank (for now, lol!), hopefully I can get the right plants this time instead of being a cheapo and getting them from ponds lol.
