I have a 20 Gal tank with the following fish

1 placo about 4-5 inches long
1 Diamond Tetra about 2 inches long
2 black tetras each about 1 inch long
1 zebra danio about 1 inch long
2 red phantom tetras about 1-2 inches each
1 red tail phantom tetra

My question is how many zebra danios and red tail phantom tetras "should" i have. The red tail phantom tetra appears to be getting picked on by something becase his tail fin was eaten. It looks like it might be growing back though. Also I was considering getting a dwarf puffer but didn't know if it would work in the tank or not.

Any help is much appreciated.

6 Danios is a good number. Otherwise they pick on the other fish looking for somone to play with :)

Ok so it looks like I will go with the more danios. The next question is how many can I buy at once without wigging out the tank.

I dropped 3 in my tank no problem, i think you would be OK droping 5 in. They arn't huge on waste.

Generally, it's said that with schooling fish (yes, tetras & danios are) you should keep at least 6 of the same species.
