IS this even possible? I mean, wouldn;ty the sand jsut get sucked upo through the tubes? I mike hte idea of sand.. but my current filter system works GREAT... Pleae let me know

An UGF and sand does not mix. It won't work. If you are wanting to convert to sand, ditch the ugf and buy a hob. The hob is alot easier to maintain and not as messy as the UGF.

even if it started to work, sand will compact and eventually stop the UGF from functioning as designed.

Agreed. If you like the look of sand you will have to ditch your UGF. It's really just a waste trap anyway and you would probably benefit more from a HOB or canister. JMO.
