i went to petsmart to pick up some fluorite and some fluval polishing pads and saw this.

i thought it would be a awesome alternative to carbon based chemical filtration.

says trace element depletion is minimal, which means you can use it with a planted aquarium, without losing nutrients from the water that the plants need.
 
My concern would be that it states that it controls NitrAtes as well , I currently have a hard time keeping my NO3 levels up as it is. So not sure if this would be good far a planted tank or not. JMO
