I know that plecos tend to become very large. I was wondering if there were any that remained small (3-4 inches max.)

plenty!!! There have been numerous discussion on these. :D I suggest a pitbull/rubberlip pleco. Those stay under 4-5 inches

In line with the size issue, bristlenose plecos are also very good choices (either the albino or brown).

Keep pushing for the bristlenose plecos!

I also have 2 clown plecos. They stay small.

look for hypancistrus and panques. they tend to stay pretty small. i have 2 L174s (white with black spots), hypancistrus sp, that stay really tiny. also L201, hypancistrus inspector (black with white spots). LDA01/L169 panaque sp. are really pretty--orange with black stripes.
