He was adamant that it was a fungus and not a parasite. And told me he keeps some rare puffers, so trust him. Recommended Melafix and pimafix to cure ich. ...WHAT?!

Wikipedia has the answer to everything. If he complains about it being wikipedia, direct him to the sources, specifically [1] which is a college level book on fish diseases.

Then you can offer him assistance in treating his rare puffers to cure them of ich.
