I am replacing the hood on my 37 gal tall with a light fixture. It will be open, will I need to cover it? If I do, with what? I don't want any fish jumping to their deaths.

Tetras ( black skirt and Colombian) but would I need a glass top, or what else? All I've ever had was a hood

Any fish can jump out..if they are startled or just playing. I have my tanks covered in glass, or if you have a strange fitting you can go to a window replacement center and get glass cut maybe for $10 or others I have heard use plexiglass.

Not sure if those are jumpers or not. It's probably always safer to have a glass top at the very least.

Any hardware store like home depot will sell acrylic sheets and cutters. Ace hardware most will even cut for you. A place like bingswanger glass or glass specialist will cut glass for you and bevel the edges. Its not that expensive.
