Hello,

I have 2 big pices of coral rock. Its been in the shed for about 4 years now. Is it safe for me to put it in my goldfish tank?

Thanks,

Rhodri

Generally it isn't a good idea as freshwater fish are more apt to injure themselves on the sharp edges.
Saltwater fish know how to navigate coral much better.

The rock will also dissolve slowly in the water increasing the pH and alkalinity of the water as well which isn't usually a desirable thing to do.

Ok. Will not use it then. Thanks for the help.

Goldfish love alkaline water, so the biggest concern would be the sharp edges. If you ground it down smooth then it would probably be fine so long as they don't have huge fins/tails. Being mostly calcium carbonate, it will dissolve at about the same rate as limestone-slowly.
