I plan to run an experiment. I heard from a Bulk Reef Supply video that it is best to leave bare rock in darkness for one month with ideal temp, good water quality & flow in order to develop a biofilm in prep for coralline algae growth. I plan to use a covered 20 gallon plastic tub for this experiment. Any input?

Well, I haven't heard anything about a "biofilm"...but have read some that coraline growth can be hampered by strong lighting. In comparing my 2 tanks, one with 4 T5HO and the other 2 radions, the coraline growth was faster and more noticable under the 4 bulb unit. To get the growth going under the Radions, I experimented with PurpleUp. Thought it was a crock since it supplied the stuff coming in with my salt mix...but it started growing and when I miss a weekly dose it slows if not stops.

Thanks. I was wondering about Purp

Sorry. ... Purple Up. My growth is best for a rock under an arch where there is diffused light. I am running t5s for my 75 gallon.
