I am not totally sure about how to do this, but this is what I was thinking about for my refugium. The only question I have is how much room should be between the vertical plates of glass and the top of the aquarium/water level?

I think the standard is like 3-5 inches? I am not sure though

I am not sure what the dimentions outa be, and should I have a powerhead or somthing to direct flow?

not inside of the refugium becuase the slower the flow the more contact time for the water on the macro meaning a greater export of nutrients.
