I’m taking the leap from my 10 gal to a 40 gal a buddy gave me. The tank was formerly a saltwater aquarium, but has been empty for several years. I have cleaned the tank glass as best I could and filled it to check for leaks. I’ve read that distilled vinegar is a safe cleaning method. Since I plan to drain this tank and clean it further now that I know it doesn’t leak, would it be beneficial to add some vinegar to the current water and run it through the canister filter for a day or so using some filter floss in the canister. I’m thinking this would help with my final cleaning and setup, and I don’t want any salt residue, as I have Cory Catfish. Any other initial set up ideas are appreciated. Thanks!

In my opinion your new tank sounds like its been cleaned. And for the filter, I would just get all new media, as well as a rinse. (y)
