Hi all,

I am thinking of stocking up my 5 gallon (20 Litre) small tank. I am attracted to mollies, guppies and tetras. I was wondering what advice you guys might have regarding what the stocking limits are for such a small set up?

Cheers,
Alex.

Go bigger if you can. I don't like to put any fish in a tank smaller than 10g. I traded my wife a 20H for her 5g hex and I use the 5g as a shrimp tank. The two neons that were moved from the 5g to the 20H got a lot more colorful and active. The 5g water nitrates would almost get out of hand in a week with a betta and two neons in the tank. It's just not enough water volume. Sorry to burst your bubble.

If you're interested in shrimp, RCS, yellow shrimp, and other similar color morphs are pretty easy to care for. All they really need is a wad of java moss and a few fish flakes every few days.
