Hello, I have 2 aquariums that are in process of a fish-in cycle.
A 5 gallon with 1 male betta, and a 20 gallon with 3 goldfish (I know it's small for them when tehy'll be bigger, but I'm already shopping for a 44-to-60g.
I test the water of both each days, and I make a water change as soon as I get 1 ppm of Ammonia or 1.5 ppm of Ammonia+Nitrite combined.
I put Prime each day (1 dose if combined Ammonia/Nitrites is between 0-1, and 2 doses if its between 1-2 ppm combined)
I also use Prime as a conditionner in the new water each time I change the water.
I also use Seachem Stabilify daily for the bacteries (day 10 today).
Betta is fed once a day, either some micro pellets or some bloodworms or brine shrimps.
Goldfish are fed once every 2 days. Either pellets, gel, bloodworms or brineshrimps. I also get them some peas when they have long poopies.
Both aquarium are very planted (95% real plants, 5% soft fake plants) + Guppy Grass free floating.
Here are my numbers :
BETTA
5 gallon, was lethargic on day one, got him some Almond Leaves and give him Pimafix daily (7 days now).
Removed the leaves after 5 days (2 days ago) because he is now active and curious.
DAY 1 to 5
Ammonia : 0
Nitrites : 0
Nitrates : 0
pH : 6.5
DAY 6
Ammonia : 0.25 to 0.50
Nitrites : 0
Nitrates : 0
pH : 6.5
DAY 7
Ammonia : 0.50
Nitrites : 0
Nitrates : 0
pH : 6.5
DAY 8
Ammonia : 1.0 ( + 50% Water Change)
Nitrites : 0
Nitrates : 0
pH : 6.5
DAY 9
Ammonia : 0.50
Nitrites : 0.1 to 0.3
Nitrates : 5
pH : 6.5
DAY 10
Ammonia : 1.0 ( This is today, will do 50% water change)
Nitrites : 0.3
Nitrates : 10
pH : 6.5
I'm wondering why the nitrates are increasing, even though ammonia and nitrites are still increasing ?
Should I continue adding Stabilify for the bacterias ? Continue to use Prime each 24h ?
I removed the leaves a couple of days ago because he feels good. I thought about giving him Pimafix one last day tomorrow (Day 8 of Pimafix)

GOLDFISHES
20 gallons, fed every 2 days
DAY 1
Ammonia : 0.25
Nitrites : 0.1 to 0.3
Nitrates : 0
pH : 6.5
DAY 2
Ammonia : 0.25
Nitrites : 0.1 to 0.3
Nitrates : 0
pH : 6.5
DAY 3-4
Ammonia : 0.50
Nitrites : 0.3
Nitrates : 5 to 10
pH : 6.5
DAY 5
Ammonia : 0.25 to 0.50
Nitrites : 0.3
Nitrates : 10 to 20
pH : 6.5
DAY 6
Ammonia : 0.25 to 0.50
Nitrites : 0.8 to 1.6
Nitrates : 10 to 20
pH : 6.5
DAY 7
Ammonia : 0.25
Nitrites : 0.8 to 1.6
Nitrates : 50
pH : 6.7
DAY 8
Ammonia : 0.25
Nitrites : 0.3
Nitrates : forgot to check
pH : 6.5
DAY 9
Ammonia : 0.25
Nitrites : 0.3
Nitrates : 10
pH : 6.7
DAY 10
Ammonia : 0.25
Nitrites : 0.3 to 0.1
Nitrates : 5
pH : 6.5
So here the ammonia seems to be low and stable since a couple of days, nitrites increased and are now lowering.
My question is, why did I have Nitrates since the beginning or almost, in high amounts while Ammonia and Nitrites were still increasing ?
What should be the next step ?
Should I stop putting more bacteries/ Stabilify ?
Thank you for you help, and sorry for such a long post!
