So I've been posting a liitle bit this week because I cinvinced my wife to get a bigger tank. I've got some great feedback on canister filters (thanks to all who shared) and looking for a some simple opinions. Here is the question:

Is it just the gallons or the tank dimensions that the fish would like better? (hope that made sense???) The two I'm considering are:

1. a 65 gal that measures 36" wide x 18" deep x 24" tall
or
2. a 55 gal that measuers 48" wide x 12" deep x 24" tall

The main fish I am wondering for is my red-tailed shark, think he'll like the extra 12" in length or the extra depth. Thanks again

It depends on the fish. Tetras, barbs and danios would like the 48 in for the extra swimming. For aquascaping the 36 is better because everything isnt so packed into a 12inch width. The rest is personal preference. I would take the shorter but deeper tank because it gives more room for planting a nice looking aquascape

I would go for a shallow tank with a larger footprint. (Actually, I have one!) Go for the 65 gal. 12" to turn around in is going to be pretty tight when the shark gets bigger.

thanks guys, I am leaning towards the 65gal cause of those same reasons mentioned. Plus the 36" is easier to place in the room.
