New tank set up last Sunday.

Added water, prime.

Next day added ammonia to around 5ppm (had only API ammonia test kit)

Today my master kit arrived so I tested ph, ammonia and for fun nitrite.

Ammonia still around 5, no nitrite.

Ph out of tap about 7.4. Tank ph between 8.4 and 8.8.

Why the jump in ph? Ammonia induced? Going to added seeded filter tomorrow or Friday from lfs. Should ph concern me?

Thanks.

Hi! What size tank is this? What type of substrate and decor? Have you tested your tap ph after it has aerated for 24hrs (separate from the tank)? My suggestion is to do a 50% water change and wait 24 hours then retest your numbers. Do not add more ammonia. If you plan on adding seeded media,I would drop your ammonia level down to 1-2ppm so you do not overwhelm any good bacteria you may be adding. Please ask any questions!

46 gallon, sand bottom. One Anubis plant, rest fake plant and some pebbles and rock covering an air stone.

I have not tested tap after 24.

Thanks.
