PH Swing During Fishless Cycle

I just tested the 80 gallon tank that I'm cycling. Good news is that it's processing ammonia and I see Nitrates and no Nitrites. This latest test though, showed that my PH has jumped from around 7.4 to 8.0

What causes the jump? Will it affect the cycle at all?

I am not sure why it would go up. Cycling drives down pH, generally.

I thought it was weird too. I just got a new set for the API Master Kit and thought that it was something off with the kit, so I used my old one and same result.

Have you added any buffers? Like baking soda or something?

No nothing. I'm going to test again in a bit and see if it was an anomaly.

Tested this morning and sitting at 7.4 again. I must have made a mistake or the lighting or something threw me off.
